That model explains the lackluster attempt to assimilate those with disability into the workplace, in my opinion (i.e. it explains that equality can be fiscally costly). Rather, this article seems to say those with disability feel that disability issues are poorly represented in today's media. This is not surprising; TV content is always driven by ratings. The public is what drives overnight pop culture phenomenons (Jersey Shore) or tragedies (Deepwater Horizon) to overtake the airwaves. Perhaps it's the chicken vs the egg: do we need to demand more disability representation in TV programming, or will we learn to advocate it only after it is presented?
